I believe portraits matter because the people and animals we love matter.
That is really where everything begins for me.
For more than twenty years, I’ve photographed families, fur-babies, high school seniors, women, and professionals through all kinds of seasons of life. And while every portrait experience looks a little different, what I want people to feel when they are here has stayed remarkably consistent.
I want you to feel comfortable.
I want you to feel seen.
I want there to be room for personality, laughter, connection, movement, and all the little things that make the people you love recognizable as themselves.
And when we are finished, I want you to have more than photographs sitting somewhere on your phone. I want you to have artwork that becomes part of your home and part of the way you remember this season of your life.
A Little About the Person Behind the Camera
I’m Misty Westebbe, and photography has been my full-time work for more than twenty years.
But I’ve never really thought of this as simply taking pictures.
I’m fascinated by people, relationships, personalities, animals, stories, and all the ways those things show up in front of my camera.
I notice the expression that happens right after someone laughs. The way a dog looks at their person. The way a mother reaches for her child without thinking about it. The subtle confidence that begins to show when someone realizes they can relax and simply be themselves.
Those are the things I’m watching for.
I’m naturally pretty calm behind the camera, and I tend to let a session unfold rather than constantly stopping to give instructions. I’m watching how you move, where your hands fall, how you connect with one another, and making little adjustments as we go. Most of the time, it simply feels like we are moving naturally through the session together.
That part is my job.
Your job is to show up with the people, pets, personality, and story that belong to you.
More Than a Studio
Misty Westebbe Photography is located on our private 2.5-acre property in Franklin, Tennessee.
It gives us something I’ve always wanted for my clients: options without having to choose between a studio portrait experience and the outdoors.
We have an indoor studio along with gardens, wooded trails, stone fences, open areas, a gazebo, and other little corners of the property that give us room to create something that fits you.
Some clients love the polish and simplicity of the studio. Others immediately belong outside. Many sessions use a little of both.
The property also makes it easier for families and fur-babies to settle in. There is room to move, explore, take breaks, and let the experience unfold without feeling rushed from one location to another.
My Role Is to Guide You
One of the most important parts of my work happens long before I press the shutter.
I want to understand who I’m photographing.
What matters to your family?
What makes your fur-baby unmistakably yours?
What does your senior love right now?
What do you want your professional portrait to communicate?
What part of yourself are you ready to celebrate?
That information shapes everything from location and clothing to how I photograph you and what we ultimately create for your home.
You never have to arrive with the entire experience figured out.
I’ll help with clothing and planning beforehand, then guide the session in a way that feels natural rather than overly posed or instructional. Afterward, I’ll help you choose the portraits and artwork you love most.
Artwork With a Place in Your Life
I believe there is something different about living with portraits of the people you love.
You walk past them every day.
Your children see themselves as part of their family story.
You see the fur-baby who has claimed such an enormous place in your heart.
You remember what your senior looked like just before life changed again.
You see yourself during a season that deserved to be acknowledged.
That is why the finished artwork matters so much to me.
We offer wall art, portrait boxes, albums, and wall art collections so your portraits can live somewhere meaningful instead of disappearing into a camera roll.
There is plenty of beautiful art we can choose to put on our walls. Portraits of the people and animals who make up our lives carry a different kind of meaning.
Photography Has Also Given Me a Way to Give Back
Some of the work closest to my heart has grown from using photography to support the community around me.
Through projects such as Tails of Franklin, Tails of Music City, and Honor Her, I’ve been able to photograph hundreds of people and animals while helping raise funds and awareness for organizations doing important work in Middle Tennessee.
Tails of Franklin alone brought together more than 200 pets in its first year and raised more than $40,000 for Friends of Williamson County Animal Center.
Honor Her gives women veterans a place to tell their stories through portraits while supporting Hold Your Horses Wellness Farm.
These projects remind me that photography can do more than preserve a story. It can bring people together around something they care deeply about.
Experience Matters to Me
After more than two decades as a professional photographer, I still care deeply about continuing to learn and becoming better at what I do.
I am a Master of Photography, Certified Professional Photographer, and Photographic Craftsman, and my work has received numerous professional photography awards, including recognition through Tennessee Professional Photographers Association.
Those credentials matter to me because they represent years of education, competition, practice, and refinement.
But when you walk into my studio, I don’t want you thinking about titles hanging after my name.
I want you to know that you are in experienced hands.
Why I Still Love This Work
After all these years, I still get excited when someone sees a portrait and their entire expression changes.
Sometimes they laugh.
Sometimes they get quiet.
Sometimes they immediately say, “That is so them.”
And sometimes they see something in themselves they hadn’t noticed in a long time.
That never gets old.
Every family changes. Kids grow up. Fur-babies come into our lives and leave far too soon. Careers change. We change.
There will always be another reason to wait.
I would rather create something meaningful from the life that is already happening.
