When I was a little girl I would enjoy sitting with my grandma and looking at gorgeous pictures from our families past. We would sit there for hours staring at the pictures, and me asking my grandma about each one. I wanted to know who they were but that wasn't enough. I needed to know the stories that those relatives had sown into their lives. As I grew up, I knew everything that she knew about them. She would laugh and say that when the time came, her box of old pictures would be passed down to me because we had spent so much time looking at them that I knew their names and stories better than even the adults. I've always cherished pictures, which I guess I get from my family because they have always had album after album of pictures. Each generation gets more. They have the ones that are passed down to them and then their own. We just continue with the stories of our lives. When I was 8, I went on a trip with my grandma to Chickasaw, Oklahoma to visit family. My aunt Gladys gave me a little 124 Kodak camera. I took pictures of everything and had fun learning how to use it. On my 12th birthday, my aunt Mary bought me a Canon Snappy camera, and I fell in love with Canon. This is when I realized looking at pictures was not enough. I wanted to be the one to capture the stories. I always had my camera in my hand taking snapshots. As I got older I would play around with my mom's 35mm, so I could learn the settings. My junior year in high school I joined the yearbook team. When the class would start talking about what they were going to do when they graduated, they would always say, "Misty is going to move away to a big city and work for an important magazine." That idea sounded amazing and thrilling to me. After I graduated I kept photography as a hobby but always enjoyed planning fun shoots for my children, nieces, and nephews. When I was in my mid 20's, I went to visit one of my cousins. She was showing me some amazing old pictures her mom had passed down to her that I hadn't seen before. One of the pictures was of my grandpa as a baby; he was sitting in my great-grandfather's lap. I was shocked that the story didn't end there. The one behind the lens was my great-grandmother Sarah. I started asking around and found out that she even had a darkroom setup! Even though I hadn't met grandma Sarah, I felt like we had a connection. In 2004 I realized I didn't just want to capture my families stories. I wanted to capture other people's stories for them. That's when I started my journey into the photography business. I started offering portraits to the public that year. In 2006 I was able to open my first studio in Arkansas. After that, I moved to Franklin, Tennessee and in 2014, my husband and I were able to open the studio we are at now. I am so blessed to be able to share my love of photography to the public. Whether it is Maternity, Newborn, Children, Family, Couples, Seniors, or Business, I want to help you capture your family's stories. I am a portrait generalist. I generalize in all the things your family may need over the years. Just like a family doctor takes care of many things for a family. The love for people and photography get to come together into one passion, capturing and recording those moments for many years to come.
