Here are 4 more beautiful ladies from our 50 Over 50 Project, showing their true beauty shining through their eyes and telling their story of life. We want to show women that aging doesn't have to bring you down but instead can lift you!
Meet Vicki and hear her story...
I am married, have 3 children, all of whom are grown and making their way in the world. My husband and I have been married for 5 years and have 7 grandchildren between us. We are also primary caregivers for my 85-year-old mother who now lives with us. Our lives are active and very full, to say the least.
I spent most of my life as a social worker and program administrator in the Mental Health field working to develop programs to support individuals with significant behavioral health challenges, live full and productive lives.
After 32 years of marriage, I found myself going through a divorce that I would never have predicted. Those times were difficult, lonely, and at times I didn’t think I would make it through, but I did.
I met my wonderful husband, Kevin, through happenstance and after dating for a while, decided we wanted more of a commitment and tied the knot. I retired not long after that, and although my life was very full, I missed working. I always enjoyed real estate but never had the time to get my license while I was working full time and raising a family.
At 62 I went back to school and got my real estate license, I was the oldest person in my class and definitely the only grandmother! I am now working as a Realtor with Crye-Leike Realtors in Franklin. I have learned so much, it definitely keeps me busy and I have enjoyed meeting many wonderful people and working in a very different field.
My advice on getting older, is to do what makes you happy, keep moving forward, stay active, positive, and if you want to make changes in your life, go for it! Don’t let your fears immobilize you, push through it, you are never too old to try something new!
Meet Tracy and hear her story...
I am a 50-year-old mom of 2 boys, a friend of some amazing women, daughter, granddaughter, sister, banker, artist, cook. I love to be outdoors, pray, laugh, travel, drink wine, listen to live music, give, and learn.
My family has been shaped by an awful disease called Huntington's (HD). It is a hereditary degenerative, fatal disease and each child of an HD patient has a 50% chance of inheriting it. My father died from it 10 years ago and my brother is nonverbal and confined to a wheelchair after having a seemingly normal and full life until his 20's. I've been tested and don't carry the gene myself. Because of HD challenges, I've seen the strength that we all have within ourselves...my mother very selflessly caring for my brother every hour of every day, my grandmother at 95, self-described tough cookie having buried her son but forging a beautiful life of laughter and music and caring, and my sister finishing college at 52, embarking on a new career as a school psychologist and making time almost every day to help care for my brother. Our trials may give us a few new wrinkles but I'm inspired by the determination and love of these women!
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging and this is what she had to say, "I’m entering a new phase of my life with one son graduating college and the other heading off to Belmont in the fall. I love that as we gain life experience (that sounds better than “aging”!) we know ourselves better and have chosen priorities rather than just being pushed and pulled in the direction life takes us. I’m looking forward to still being a mom but also spending time with all of those other things high on the priority list!"
Meet Tina and hear her story...
I’m a country girl born and raised in Nolensville, TN. I was raised on my family farm which we still have today.
I have worked since I was 16. For the last 37 years, I have worked for Williamson County Government. I have a great husband, and we have one son who is now engaged. I truly believe that the reason I have gotten through life this far is because of God’s love for us and his grace and mercy.
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging and this is what she had to say, "For me, aging is a mindset. Some days I feel 12 so I do things that make me happy. Like new things I’ve never done and some days, I feel really old and on those days I try to remember that I was put here for a purpose, so I try to make those days count too."
Meet Carol and hear her story...
I am 62 years old. I was born and raised in Canada. I am a hockey fan and cheer for the Montreal Canadiens. I moved to California when I was in my twenties for the adventure and sunshine. I met my husband there and we have been married for 32 years. I have two grown sons, a daughter-in-law and a grandson. We moved to Nashville in 2004 and we could not be happier. I am an animal lover and have always had pets. I have a Border Collie “Daisy “ who is my shadow. I also have a car named Martini. I am a Jack of all trades ( I was a make-up artist for Ester Lauder, bank supervisor, and an Executive secretary for a prominent Neurosurgeon). Master at motherhood. I am retired now and enjoying drinking my coffee and journaling on my front porch. Taking walks with Daisy. I enjoy reading, going to the beach, and photography. I start every morning with gratitude.
I was on The Price is Right with Bob Baker and won a car. I also won a trip from the Regis and Kathy Lee show.
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging and this is what she had to say, " I consider it a privilege to get older and to be able to share my wisdom. Close your eyes and imagine the best version of you possible. That’s who you really are. Let go of any part of you that doesn’t believe it. Be kind."
