What Kind Of Headshots Should You Take?
When you are taking your professional headshots, you need to talk with the photographer about what type of pictures you will need. There are business headshots, casual portraits, playful images of you laughing, staged pictures of work and life, or even team portraits.
To figure out which images you need if not all of them, ask yourself these questions...
-
Where will I use these images?
-
Am I wanting personal branding?
-
How many images will I use for business marketing materials?
-
Do I want some casual photo to post on my social media feed or even on the about me page on my website?
-
Do I want to showcase the type of work environment where I thrive best?
-
Do I want to tell a story to my audience?
-
Do I want some team pictures for my website or socials?
-
Where should we take these images? In the office, at the studio, outside, or a combination of all of these?
-
If we are taking some in the studio, which background should we use for each outfit or scene?
-
What outfits will I need to wear for these different images? Not only the clothing but also jewelry and shoes.
-
Are makeup and hair included or do I need to do that myself?
After you have answered these questions and discussed them with your photographer, y'all can prepare for the day of the shoot.
Let's move forward to the day you will be looking at your images and choosing which ones you want to get.
Remember, you do not need to use all of the images, but these are some helpful guidelines to choose the right ones.
Business images are great for LinkedIn, website, or business cards.
Casual portraits showing your personality can be used on Facebook or shared in an email signature.
Playful pictures are fun to post on social media feeds.
Staged images of work or life will best represent your brand and what you do.
Group photos are great for website use, such as a "meet the staff" page statuses on the website, Google Business, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter bio sections.
Here Are Some Examples Of Where To Use Your Headshots.
Your Website
You can use the headshots on your About Me page, or a group photo if it is about the company. Showing off what a day in your work life is could also be sprinkled through your website content.
Your Social Media
Some examples of social platforms are Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube. When it comes to your profile pictures you want to keep them consistent. Some people make the mistake that these all have to be the same, but that is not true. What they actually mean is if you are going to use a logo then use them on all, but if you want to show your face then show your face on all of them. You can mix it up a little bit on different platforms like LinkedIn you could use more of a business headshot but on Instagram, you could use more of a casual headshot.
Don't forget about your cover images as well. This could be a really good place to use some of your day-in-the-life photos.
Your social media feed is where the sky is the limit. You can use all of your photos at different times and sprinkle them through over time. Just make sure to add an awesome caption with them!
Advertising
Some advertising needs some personal branding, and you could use any of them as long as it goes with what you are promoting.
You could add a professional headshot to the signature of your email. You could also use other ones in your email if matches the message. One example would be an email saying meet our company. It would definitely come in handy to have that group shot!
Google Business
You would want to make your profile image a professional image, but the others could be sprinkled through your picture tab.
Business Card
Instead of just having a boring card with a name, email, website, and phone number, you could add your face to give it a personal touch. Not to mention, if you were to leave your cards somewhere, whoever gets one will feel like they kinda know you even though they haven't officially met you yet.
Your Phone
When someone calls you, what comes up? Is it a picture of you? Your logo? Or something else that is unrelated to your personable self. If this does not match the individual on the other end, they are going to feel confused or disconnected from you when receiving a call from an unknown number! Add a headshot image so they know it's you and it looks professional.
Online Tools
Don't forget to add your image to your online tools like Zoom, Dropbox, or any tools that your job uses.
