Here are 4 more beautiful ladies from our 50 Over 50 Project, showing their true beauty shining through their eyes and telling their story of life. We want to show women that aging doesn't have to bring you down but instead can lift you!
Meet Patricia and hear her story...
I've been married to a wonderful man, Mark Douglas for 38years. We have three adult children and three grandchildren. My heart's desire is to nurture, encourage, inspire and empower women of all ages. To remind them they have treasures and giftings that God has placed inside of them, that he is waiting to use.
In 1966 my grandmother and I walked to the nearby A& P grocery store. She had her special buggy that she always took (which I still have today). While at the store she bought me a box of Eskimo pie popsicles. We headed back home and decided to sit on a bench to rest. While resting I decided we might eat the ice cream before they melt. She agreed. Grandma and I ate all six popsicles. Looked at each other smiling. Then she said, well I guess we should head on home. But not before I send you back to the A&P store to get another box of Eskimo popsicles to take home.
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging and this is what she had to say, "Aging is truly a beautiful season in our lives. We should never compare each other's aging process. It takes away from our own process of aging and can deprive us of the wonderful, intricate things that are transforming our individual lives. Causing us to.....miss the moment that God has granted us."
Meet Cassandra and hear her story...
I just turned 52. I was remarried on Christmas Eve 2018. I have 3 children. 2 have graduated college with 1 living in California and 1 living in Murfreesboro. My 3rd child lives at home. She is 20 and is autistic.
I recently lost 75 pounds. I didn’t follow a fad and didn’t restrict myself. I retaught myself proper nutrition and eat a mostly plant-based diet. I’ve always struggled with food and have yo-yo dieted my whole life, finding weight loss success at times and then gaining it all back. It’s not a special story, but it’s my current story and I’m pretty proud that I work hard to overcome an eating addiction and eat foods that heal my body not harm it.
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging and this is what she had to say, "Always be determined and always believe in yourself. Laugh often. You are never too old for second chances. I found love the second time around and I regained my health through determination.
Meet Joy and hear her story...
I've been married for 22 years to my best friend, Wade, and together raising two beautiful children, Jackson and Callie, and two doggies. I’ve always been a full-time working mom. I enjoy cooking with my husband and spending time with family and friends, albeit, not so much in the last year.
Most people don’t know that I am a three-time oral cancer survivor. I have been lucky in that it was detected early and continue to stay on top of it. It puts life in perspective and is a good reminder not to sweat the small stuff.
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging and this is what she had to say, "Embrace it! Enjoy life while at the same time take care of yourself. You only have one body and it needs to last for the long haul."
Meet Mary and hear her story...
Grew up in Kentucky and graduated from Transylvania. I have been in Franklin for 4 decades and worked at Heritage Foundation of Williamson County for 3 decades. I love historic preservation and I am currently working as a board member and part of the team of the African American Heritage Society to rehabilitate the exterior of the McLemore House. My personal slogan is “Let’s Save History to Make History!”
I grew up in a historic home my parents rehabilitated and spent time on my grandparent's farmsteads so I have been hooked on historic places for my whole life. I have worked to restore 4 homes in downtown Franklin, update 2 homes in Charlton Green, and was blessed to be part of doing whatever it took to save places that matter in our community!
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging and this is what she said, "Outrun It!"
