For 2020 we are bringing in 50 women over 50 to photograph and show their true beauty shining through their eyes, tell their story of life through images to show women that aging doesn't have to bring you down but instead can lift you!
Meet Christi and hear her story...
I started dating my husband in high school in Oklahoma and this summer we will have been married for 37 years. After raising our boys, I became a real estate agent with a passion for taking care of all my clients. Recently, after a very successful career in the parking industry, my husband joined me as a realtor. And to take this family thing a step further, our partner is one of our son’s father-in-law. We share 4 grandchildren, 3 girls and 1 boy! This is surprising to some but the love, respect and trust runs deep and is the foundation of the Leaman-Polivka Group.
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging and this is what she had to say, "My aging advice is to treat each year as a gift and to thank God for every single day. It’s all about attitude!"
Meet Ann and hear her story…
I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. I have 8 grandchildren ranging in age from 3 months to 19 years! I love to travel, and I have been all over the world. To date, I have been to 120 countries and Antarctica! Every year I like to take 3 to 4 trips out of the country to explore new places. I have taken 6 of my grandchildren when they turned 13 on a trip anywhere in the world that they want to go to. I have loved getting to bond with them on a one on one basis while we have traveled together. We have all become much closer because of the travel. I also love photography which goes well with my travel bug. I’m most proud of blending a family of children and stepchildren into a happy, loving family. There are 17 of us now, and we continue to grow our family. I have been married 38 years to my 2nd husband.
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging and this is what she had to say, “Aging is kind of like a double-edged sword. There are the wrinkles and the aches and pains that come with age, but there is also a freedom of not caring what people think of you and the wisdom that comes with a lifetime of memories. Most older people don’t have the day to day worries about raising a family. They can just enjoy their grandchildren. I love the age that I am and my place in our family. I don’t think I would go back and re-live my life again, even if I could. All the years and all my experience have made me the person I am today. There is a calmness to being older. I do wish that our culture revered older people instead of thinking we are worthless!!!”
Danielle was born and raised here in middle Tennessee. She is a single mom to a 23-year-old son, Keaton, and a 19-year-old daughter, Francesca. She has a Master's Degree in Business and currently has the State Contract for GM. She works at Wilson County Motors. She enjoys traveling and cooking, but most of all, she loves going to live concerts.
Meet Danielle and hear her amazing story...
I was involved in a serious auto accident that caused disfigurement and scaring on my face and swelling of my brain. I had 5 years of reconstructive surgeries with an attempt to fix my face. There was a lot of pain, bruising, and swelling. My face was a small part of what was broken; my confidence was gone. I never wanted my picture taken. I spent years of strangers staring and asking rude questions regarding my scars. Finally, as I aged, I realized my scars were never going away. I needed to be okay with them and face the world with the fact that I am someone who survived an accident and lived. So, now it is part of my story. We all have scars; some are inside, and some are outside. My scares are on my face. They are a mask I wear daily.
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging, and this is what she had to say, "Aging is a privilege many do not get to experience, so embrace it each day. I am having the Time of My Life! You live each day. Make it worth it!"
She is a U.S. Army Veteran who served from 1981 to 1990. Trained and prepared 1st Calvary and 2nd Armor Division on Gunnery Operations for the Abrams M-1 Tank. Her team trained Red Cell, headed by Captain Richard Marcinko, creator of Seal Team 6.
Meet Katherine and hear her awesome story...
Thirty years have passed since I last wore the uniform. You see, the Armor troops I worked with had a grit that kind of rubbed off on me. These guys got dirty... really dirty. I had too as well. There were no female role models, but these guys took me under their wings to teach me everything they could so I could be successful. I may never see any of my mentors again, but I will always be grateful for what they've done for me. May God Bless Them All!
We asked her if she had anything to say to others about aging, and this is what she had to say, "Grab a box of crayons and a sheet of paper. Discover your creative side: it's ok to enjoy the simple things in life."
